Coastal Corporation Ltd’s subsidiary commercial production at Odisha ethanol plant scheduled to begin by end of April 2025

Coastal Corporation Ltd’s wholly owned subsidiary, Coastal Biotech Private Limited, has started trial runs at its ethanol plant located in Maringi Village, Paralakhemundi, Odisha. The commercial production at the plant is scheduled to commence by the end of April 2025, company informed exchange.

The company has set up a 100% subsidiary for ethanol manufacturing in Odisha, spanning across 30 acres.

The government has been promoting the blending of ethanol in petrol under the Ethanol Blended Petrol (EBP) Programme, wherein Public Sector Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) sell ethanol blended with petrol.

As part of its commitment to achieving a 20% ethanol blending target by 2025, India requires around 1,350 crore litres of ethanol for both blending and industrial uses. To meet this goal, the production capacity must reach about 1,700 crore litres, assuming plants operate at 80% efficiency. Current figures show that India has already achieved an impressive ethanol production capacity of 1,648 crore litres as of 30th September 2024, with several states boasting surplus capacities.
