Renowned actor and politician John Dumelo has shown willingness to revive the Komenda Sugar factory that has stopped operations 30 years ago due to technical difficulties and mismanagement.
The factory had started operations in 1964 had a capacity of crushing 1250 tonnes of sugar. The attempt was made to revive the factory in 2016 but it could not start operations.
Now Dumelo has come forward and shown willingness to revive the factory. In his tweet, he said, “I can revive the Komenda sugar factory if given the mandate. That factory will start producing sugar within 16 months( considering planting and harvesting of sugarcane). The factory needs about 200,000 tons of sugarcane(pa) to operate at full capacity. We can do it!”

Ghana is focusing on lowering sugar imports by increasing domestic production. The locals have stated that President Nana Akufo-Addo had promised to take steps to revive the factory but nothing concrete has been done so far.
