New Delhi: Sugar mills in India are saddled with surplus sugar stocks and exploring for ways to diminish the glut. In a bid reduce the sugar stocks, mills are focusing on ethanol production. With the recent hike in ethanol prices, more mills are likely to emphasis on ethanol production. The Central government has the vision to achieve 10 per cent ethanol blending with petrol by 2020. Moving in the same direction, the sugar industry has achieved 8 per cent ethanol blending in the sugar season 2018-2019. Going forward the industry will have to ponder over issues like integrating their distilleries with multiple feedstocks rather than depending on molasses alone.
To deliberate more on the subject, The Sugar Technologists’ Association Of India (STAI) is all set to organise a one-day seminar on “Optimizing Ethanol Production in Distilleries attach with sugar mills – Experienced Gained and Way Forward”.
In a conversation with ChiniMandi.com, Mr.Sanjay Awasthi, President of STAI shared insights on the one day workshop. He said, “Going forward the industry will have to ponder over issues like integrating their distilleries with multi feed stocks rather than depending on molasses alone.
