Bagha, Jan 22 (UNI) Sugarcane growers today laid a siege to National Highway-727  in protest against non-payment of their outstanding dues by a sugar factory paralysing  movement of vehicles to neighouring Uttar Pradesh in West Champaran district.

A large number of sugarcane growers blocked the national highway near Badgaon  village under Bagha Town police station area creating nearly 10 km long queue of  trucks and other vehicles due to the agitation. Even ambulances also got stuck in traffic jam even as normal life in the area was also thrown out of gear.

District administration authorities tried to persuade farmers to lift the road blockade by assuring them that they would ensure that they received their outstanding dues from the sugar factory at the earliest but it failed to make any impact.

Farmers’ leader Jayesh Singh said that Bagha based Tirupati Sugars Limited had collected sugarcane stocks from farmers during this crushing season but it did not make payment to them against it.

He said the road blockade would continue till farmers were not paid their outstanding dues.
