Meghalaya: BSF seizes 25,000 kgs of sugar

The Border Security Force (BSF) in Meghalaya has thwarted an attempt to smuggle 25,000 kilograms of sugar across the international border into Bangladesh. Two suspected smugglers were apprehended in an operation conducted yesterday by the BSF’s 172 Battalion, reported Highland Post.

In a press release, the BSF disclosed that it intercepted a vehicle loaded with sugar originating from Kalain in the Cachar district of Assam, en route to the Kuliang area in the East Jaiñtia Hills district. The driver and co-driver of the vehicle failed to furnish any valid documents related to the sugar consignment.

Following the interception, the seized items and the detained individuals were handed over to the appropriate customs office for further legal proceedings.
