Pakistan: Government has not allowed sugar export yet, says minister

Islamabad: Federal Minister for Industries and Production, Rana Tanveer Hussain, emphasized that the government has not yet permitted the export of sugar, considering domestic requirements, reported Business Recorder.

Any future decisions regarding sugar export will be made in consultation with all relevant stakeholders, taking into account the local situation. He made these remarks during a media interaction following his participation in the closing session of a four-day international training workshop titled, “Value Addition of Gemstone Products for Compliance with International Standards,” organized jointly by the National Productivity Organization (NPO) and the Asian Productivity Organization (APO) in Tokyo, Japan.

Addressing concerns about high fertilizer prices, Minister Hussain stated that the government, in collaboration with provincial authorities, will soon take necessary actions to ensure compliance with prescribed fertilizer prices. He reassured that the government is committed to preventing the exploitation of farmers and will facilitate wheat procurement at support prices. Acknowledging recent increases in sugar prices, he indicated a rise of Rs2-3 per kg.
