Pakistan: Sugar millers advocate for more export

Islamabad: After exporting about 0.2 million tons of sugar last year, sugar millers want to export more, reported local media.

The Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, led a meeting to talk about it, thinking about how much sugar we have and how much other countries want.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif spoke with important people like Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and others. They talked about how much sugar we have and if there’s enough for us and other countries.

The Prime Minister said it’s important to check how much sugar we have and make sure the numbers are right.

He said it’s important for sugar prices to stay the same so people can afford it. He also said exporting sugar can help our country make more money and be better off.

At the meeting, they decided to work harder to stop people from smuggling or hiding sugar to make prices go up. They also asked the Ministry of Commerce to look at how much sugar we need and how much we have and tell them in a week. They’ll decide how much sugar to sell based on that report.

People who know say there’s a lot of extra sugar in the country, about 1.5 million tons. But since we might sell some to other countries, the prices of sugar in our markets might go up.
