107 plants registered with Public Sector OMCs for supply of bio-diesel: Minister

Suresh Gopi, Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas of India, provided details about the current status of the feedstock base and the quantity of bio-diesel being produced in the country, state-wise, in response to an unstarred question in the Lok Sabha.

He said, “The National Policy on Biofuels-2018, as amended in 2022, has identified various feedstocks for bio-diesel production, which inter-alia include non-edible oilseeds, used cooking oil (UCO), animal tallow, acid oil, short gestation non-edible oil rich crops, algal feedstock etc. Currently, 107 plants are registered with Public Sector Oil Marketing Companies for supply of bio-diesel.”

The State-wise details of these plants along with their production capacities are given below:

“Bio-diesel production plants are set up by project proponents in the private sector, depending on the commercial and economic viability of the project. Currently, there is no proposal to adopt the PPP model for bio-diesel production,” the minister added, answering whether the Government proposes to adopt the PPP model in bio-diesel production.
