11.96 per cent ethanol blending achieved till March end

The country has achieved 11.96% ethanol blending till March end in the ongoing Ethanol Supply Year (ESY) of 2023-24, with a total blending of 232.56 cr litres of ethanol.

According to the sources, the total ethanol quantity received in the first five months of the ESY is 224.46 cr litres. Whereas the utilized blending is of 232.56 cr liters, meaning thereby 8.10 cr liters short received from OMCs’ stock.

From molasses-based ethanol producers, the total contracted ethanol quantity in the first two quarters of the supply year was almost 152 cr litres and the quantity supplied was almost 126 cr litres.

Out of this, the total contracted ethanol quantity from Sugarcane Juice was 54.33 cr litres and the total supply in five months was almost 52 cr litres. The total contracted quantity from B Heavy molasses and C Heavy molasses was almost 75 cr litres and 23 cr litres respectively and the total supply in the five months was 63.63 cr litres and 10.75 cr litres respectively.

Moving to grain-based distilleries, the total contracted quantity in the two quarters was 168.39 cr litres and supply was 98.21 cr litres. Out of this, the total contracted quantity from Damaged Food Grains (DFG) was 86.61 cr litres and the total quantity received was 47.65 cr litres of ethanol. Due to the ban on the supply of FCI rice towards ethanol production, there was no supply of ethanol from the same.

Moving to Maize feedstock, the total contracted quantity was 72 cr litres in Q1 and Q2 and the supply was around 50.56 cr litres.

Hence the total contracted ethanol quantity from both grain-based ethanol producers and molasses-based ethanol producers in the first two quarters was 320 cr litres and the total supply is almost 224 cr litres.
