Pune: Sugarcane crushing season picked up pace in Maharashtra as 151 sugar mills have started the operations till November 22, 2021.
As per the data released by the sugar commissionerate, it includes 74 cooperative and 77 private sugar mills. Mills in the state have produced 139.01 lakh quintal sugar after crushing 155.62 lakh tonne sugarcane with a recovery rate of 8.93 per cent.
Solapur division is leading with a maximum number of sugar mills participated in the ongoing season. Currently, 35 mills are engaged in sugarcane crushing till November 22, 2021. Numbers are likely to increase in the coming days. Mills in the region have produced 28.35 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 34.49 lakh tonne sugarcane with a recovery of 8.22 per cent.
Sugar mills in the Kolhapur division have recorded a maximum average recovery in the state that is above 10 per cent. Mills here produced 43.84 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 43.44 lakh tonne sugarcane.
