Chandigarh: The Punjab government has deployed 16 teams of the finance department to conduct an audit of seven private sugar mills, reports The Indian Express.
Several sugar mills out of these have not cleared full payment of the cane farmers despite taking subsidies from the government. Farmers have launched agitations against them several times in the past.
State agriculture minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal said, “We have deployed 16 teams from the finance department to conduct an audit of these sugar mills so that we can get the correct picture about what they have been doing.”
