Pune: Sugar mills in Maharashtra are performing well in crushing operations. According to the sugar commissionerate report, as on 3 December 2020, 161 sugar mills were in operation in the state. And by crushing 205.17 lakh tonne sugarcane, mills produced 179.82 lakh quintal sugar. As of now, the average sugar recovery is 8.76 per cent.
The maximum number of 34 sugar mills are in operation from Kolhapur region, which includes 24 cooperative mills and 10 private mills. In Solapur region too, so far 34 mills have started crushing season. Whereas, yet not a single mill has commenced operation in the Nagpur region. In the Pune region, overall 27 sugar mills are engaged in crushing activity.
