Sugar season 2024-25: 90 sugar mills start crushing operations in Uttar Pradesh; 39 mills begin cane payments

The sugarcane crushing season for 2024-25 is gaining momentum in Uttar Pradesh, with 102 out of 121 sugar mills in the state issued indent for cane procurement, according to Prabhu N. Singh, the state’s Sugarcane Commissioner.

90 of the state’s sugar mills have started their crushing operations. Among the state’s operational mills, 18 out of 19 in the Saharanpur region, all 16 in the Meerut region, 11 out of 17 in the Bareilly region, 22 out of 23 in the Moradabad region, 13 out of 19 in the Lucknow region, four out of five in the Ayodhya region, four out of 10 in the Devipatan region, and two out of seven in the Deoria region have commenced crushing. Additionally, 12 other mills have completed the necessary formalities and issued indent for cane procurement, with operations expected to begin in the next two to three days. The remaining 19 mills are also expected to begin operations soon.

The Sugarcane Commissioner further stated that directives have been issued to mills to ensure timely payment of the sugarcane price for the 2024-25 crushing season. As a result, 39 mills have already started making payments to farmers. With mills operating on schedule, fields will be cleared in time for wheat sowing.
