The sugarcane crushing season is half-way down but there are as many as 31 sugar mills in UP that have failed to clear the sugarcane dues.
Total 120 sugar mills have participated in the cane crushing activity for this season and the pending arrears worth Rs 7,979 crore have been piled up till February 2. The cane dues during the same period last season were around Rs 5,948 crore.
According to the news report published in Financialexpress.com, the average payment in the state is 46 per cent. Of these 31 mills, 11 mills are of the cooperative sector, 10 mills are of Bajaj Hindusthan, three of Simbhaoli Sugars, 2 mills each of Modi Sugars and Yadu group and one each of Shamli, Gadora and Captainganj.
24 cooperative sugar mills in the state have cleared only 11 per cent of their dues. They have managed to clear arrears worth Rs 121 crore out of Rs 1,006 crore.
