Pune: As many as 68 sugar mills in Maharashtra have closed their operations as they have entered the final phase.
As per the data published by the sugarcane commissionerate, a total of 188 sugar mills in the state have participated in the cane crushing operations and till March 27, they have produced 993.79 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 951.94 lakh tonne sugarcane with a recovery of 10.44 per cent.
The mills that have closed their operations till date include 33 from Solapur division, 17 from Kolhapur division, 9 from Nanded, 3 from Pune and 2 each from Ahmednagar, Aurangabad and Amaravati.
