A sugar firm from Kenya sets aside the funds for the repair of the road, which is damaged. This has brought cheers among the farmers from western Kenya that suffer a lot due to the bad road condition.
David Noel Okoth, General Manager, Sukari Industries said, the sugar mill is facing tremendous problems to procure sugarcane for crushing due to the bad road condition in most of the region.
“The bad roads make it impossible to carry sugarcane loaded trucks that lead to delay in the cane crushing. This also incurs a huge loss on transportation as truckers spend more than an hour for the journey where it should take only 15 minutes,” he said.
According to the media report, the company will spend Sh12 million to upgrade the 10-km Ndhiwa-Riat road, one of the major roads that links Homa Bay Country-based factory to Ndhiwa town. The company has also repaired the five-kilometre Amoyo-Ligotho road, 10-kilometre Amoyo-Ongito road, Ongito-Ayego (9km), Oria market-Nyamasare road (12km) and the 11-kilometre Oria-Pala road, among others.
