Three sugar mills from Fiji have crushed total 806,388 tonnes of sugarcane till August 31.
The Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC) has stated that the sugarcane crushed by these mills is more as compared to the same period last year. The mills had then crushed 717,167 tonnes. Sugar mills crushed 12 per cent extra sugarcane this year. The total cane crushed by the mills has reached 44 per cent of the targeted 1.84 million tonnes.
According to the FSC, mill performance remained acceptable, with operating time efficiency 10 per cent better than last year, and average weekly mill stoppages 38 per cent lower, driven by strong cane supply and mill breakdowns that are 23 per cent lower than in 2019.
