Aurangabad: Vinayak Mete, chief of Shiv Sangram party, urged NCP chief Sharad Pawar to lead the sugarcane harvesters movement in Maharashtra. According to the news report published in The Times of India, Mete said, “He is the leader of Maharashtra and the country. The responsibility should be given to him for addressing the issues faced by the sugar cane cutters. His decisions should be accepted by all.”
To resolve the long pending issues, Mete has demanded the formation of an independent committee comprising representatives of sugarcane cutters, labour contractors, sugar factories and government representatives.
Ahead sugarcane crushing season 2020-21, sugarcane cutters have asked for a hike in their wages as the COVID pandemic has hit them hard.
