Guyana: Chateau Margot squatters burn sugarcane crops grown for research

Squatters, who occupied the lands at Chateau Margot, have burnt down over 17,000 varieties of sugarcanes belonging to the Guyana Sugar Corporation’s (GuySuCo) Agriculture Research Centre in the last three weeks.

According to the Stabroeknews.com, Gavin Ramnarain, head of the Research Centre said that three weeks ago squatters burnt some part of the field belonging to GuySuCo.

It was noticed that other parts of the field were also burnt in two weeks following the first incident.
