Dhaka: In the current crushing season, Bangladesh’s Mubarakganj Sugar Mill Limited (MSM) in Jhenaidah is expected to produce 10,400 tonnes of sugar from 1.6 lakh tonnes of sugarcane.
Sugarcane recovery at the mill is below as compared to other cane sugar-producing countries. According to the media report, the recovery rate of the sugar from the cane was fixed at 6.50 per cent. In the previous season, the mill had produced 7,069 tonnes of sugar from 138,800 tonnes of sugarcane.
The local media reports say that mill is suffering from the financial crisis and running into the losses. Also, the dues of farmers and workers have not been paid.
