Kalaburagi, Karnataka: Deputy Commissioner V V Jyothsna has asked the sugar mills to ensure that they clear cane bills to the farmers within 15 days of cane procurement.
DC chaired a joint meeting of the sugarcane growers and representatives of sugar factories in Kalaburagi on Saturday, where she has given the directives for the same.
As per the Sugarcane Control Order, the mills are bound to pay farmers their bills within 15 days of cane supply to them.
According to the news report published in TheHindu.com, Jagadish Patil Rajapur, District president of the Sugarcane Growers Association said, “The factories in the district should pay Rs 2,500 per tonne to the farmers. The KPR Sugar factory from Vijayapura is paying Rs 2300 per tonne whereas centre has fixed the Fair and Remunerative Price for 2020-21 at Rs 2,850 per tonne.”
