Bangladesh government has decided to stop production at six out of 15 state-owned sugar mills owing to the huge losses. The decision has created a panic situation among the workers and the sugarcane cultivators in the country. However, the Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation ( BSFIC) has said they will continue to receive their salaries.
The management of the six mills received the letters in this regard on Thursday.
According to the media report, Sanat Kumar Saha, BSFIC chairman said, production at Pabna, Panchaahr, Shyampur, Rangpur, Setabganj and Kushita sugar mills will be stopped till further notice.
He said, “The mills are incurring losses and not functioning to full of their capacity, hence we have decided to shut operations at these mills.”
