Sugarcane farmers in South Africa have welcomed the government’s step of signing the Sugar Industry Master Plan.
The farmers from Pongola, KwaZulu-Natal region are expecting that after this Master Plan there would be an increase in the farming business that was affected due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Last month the Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development Minister Thoko Didiza signed the agreement with the sugar industry sector which was welcomed by the cabinet.
As per the plan, the government takes urgent action to protect the rural livelihoods and businesses and protect thousands of jobs. The plan also aims to increase the income of sugarcane farmers by increasing revenue and generating new jobs in the sugar sector.
Zitha Dlamini, member of the South African Farmers Development Association (SAFDA) said that the plan will help farmers to grow their business.
