Kathmandu: After the death of a sugarcane farmer who had come to protest in Kathmandu, the cane growers have announced that they would revoke the agreement they had signed with the government. The farmer identified as Narayan Ray Yadav, resident of Sarlahi died due to cardiac arrest. He was 65.
The protesters stated that Yadav was immediately taken to the Helping Hands Community Hospital after he experienced an ache in his heart. The hospital referred him to Shahid Gangalal. He was admitted at the hospital and the doctors later declared him dead.
According to farmers, Yadav was to receive Rs 2.4 million from Annapurna Sugar Mills and had borrowed a loan of Rs 1.8 million from the bank.
The farmers stated that they have decided to revoke the pact signed with the government and will not move from Kathmandu until the government clears all their dues. The cane farmers are protesting in Kathmandu for 16 days demanding the government to intervene and clear their pending cane dues. The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies had signed an agreement with the farmers stating that the farmers will get the dues in 21 days and urged the farmers to call off the agitation.
