Chandigarh: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has asked the Punjab government to release the pending cane dues of cane farmers worth Rs 284 crore immediately. The SAD also asked the government to increase the State Assured Price (SAP) of cane on priority basis.
We will launch agitation if our demands are not made, stated SAD officials citing that the agitation would bring justice to the cane farmers.
SAD took the decision in this regard in a high level meeting presided over by its President Sukhbir Singh Badal.
It was noted in the meeting that the cooperative sugar mills owe Rs 188 crore to the cane farmers including pending cane dues worth Rs 107 crore for the crushing season 2019-20 and Rs 81 crore for the ongoing season.
The chief minister is not caring for the farmers when the cooperative mills are not paying cane dues to the farmers, alleged the SAD president. Farmers should get all their dues with interest on it as per the law, he said.
