Sensex opened 178.88 points higher at 48,616.66, whereas Nifty50 opened 41.45 points up at 14,240.95. Broader markets outperformed the benchmarks. Amongst sectoral indices, the Nifty Metal, Nifty PSU Banks and Nifty Auto gained while Nifty IT was under pressure.
In the previous session, sensex ended 260.98 points or 0.54 per cent higher at 48,437.78, while Nifty rose 66.60 points or 0.47 per cent to settle at a new peak of 14,199.50.
