Kathmandu: The issue of pending cane dues has been raised by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of Nepal and urged the government to ensure the payment of pending cane dues of farmers.
The NHRC reminded the government that the farmers were paid only partially for their products even after passage of 21 days of the agreement.
Dr. Tikaram Pokhrel, spokesperson of NHRC said, Government should initiate action against the millers that have not paid the cane dues to the farmers.
“All should respect the rights of farmers. The government should take stern action against the millers and industrialists that have yet not paid cane dues to the farmers. The family members of deceased farmer Narayan Ray Yadav and other farmers should get their dues in time,” he said.
The NHRC officials visited the house of Narayan Ray Yadav who died in Kathmandu on December 29 during the agitation for pending cane dues and assured the family members that the organisation will urge the government to clear dues on a priority basis.
