Muzaffarnagar: Sugar mills in the district have produced 63.40 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 590.36 lakh quintal sugarcane so far. The mills have however paid cane dues worth Rs 973.73 crore out of total dues amounting to Rs 1,896.21 crore which is around 58.79 per cent.
The mills have cleared all the pending dues of the last crushing season.
Of the eight sugar mills in the district, seven are from the private sector. These mills have a crushing capacity of 6,17,000 quintal per day and at present, they are crushing sugarcane at 5.71 lakh quintal per day.
