Bihar to make framework for ethanol production promotion policy

Patna: Bihar has taken up the steps to design a policy to increase ethanol production in the state. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday directed the state industries, sugar cane and other concerned departments to initiate action in this regard and to increase investment in this sector and boost the industrialization along with generating employment.

He asked the industries department to select investors that are interested in the production of fuel-grade ethanol. This will help in using 100% of the ethanol produced for blending with fuel.

The CM had convened the meeting of the concerned officials involved in designing the policy and took a review of the work done so far. He said that sugarcane and maize can be used for ethanol production.

Giving a background to the state’s bid for cane-based ethanol production in the state, the CM said his government in 2006-07 had sent a proposal to the then central government, but it was not cleared.
