The book entitled “Analytical Handbook for Cane sugar Industry” written by Prof. Narendra Mohan, Director, National Sugar Institute, Kanpur was released today by Shri Sudhanshu Pandey, Secretary (Food & Public Distribution), Government of India. Speaking on the occasion, Secretary (Food & Public Distribution) lauded the effort made for bringing out a book which comprehensively describes the chemical control methodology. Such book is very relevant in today’s context when sugar factories have converted themselves into multi-product factories and assessment of technical efficiency at various unit operations is important, he added. Shri Subodh Kumar Singh, Joint Secretary (Sugar & Administration) while congratulating the author for the effort expressed the book to be of great help for the sugar industry across the globe.
We were facing the problem of books on the subject matter from long and no publication has come from almost last two decades, said Prof. Narendra Mohan, Director, National Sugar Institute, Kanpur and author of the book. The book contains details of methodology for calculating technical efficiencies at various unit operations, method of analysis of various sugar house products and also the details of quality control protocols. The book shall be of immense utility not only for the technical personnel working in sugar industry but also for the students, he said.
The book details standard methods of analysis for various products of the sugar industry besides suggesting tools for enforcing desired chemical control would be of great importance. The book also incorporates the methods of analysis for sampling of sugar, molasses, bagasse, filter cake and other process intermediates. The book also contains terminology, definitions and formulas for calculating technical efficiency at various unit operations. A chapter has also been dedicated on certifications and quality control mechanism in sugar processing. The book also contains methods of analysis of various water/waste waters, condensates, boiler feed water etc. Templates of various reports required for furnishing data on day to day or on weekly basis have been given.
