Weather changes projected to have serious negative impact on agriculture

Mumbai, Maharashtra: The sugarcane and other crops are likely to be impacted due to a rise in temperature in the future. According to a study by a Baramati professor published in the prestigious journal Springer Nature, the average annual temperature of Maharashtra is likely to rise by 2.5 degree Celsius by 2050.

The study states that the average monsoon rainfall in the state is likely to increase by 210 mm by the end of the century.

The study report prepared by Rahul Todmal, assistant professor of geography at Vidya Pratishthan’s ASC College in Baramati said most parts of Maharashtra are very likely to experience a rise in annual average temperatures ranging between 0.5 and 2.5 degreed Celsius up to 2050, and considerably warmer conditions after 2033.
