Pune: As the sugarcane crushing season has entered the last phase, the sugar mills in the state are closing their operations. As per the data published by the sugar commissionerate total of 187 sugar mills have participated in the cane crushing operations this season. These mills have produced 979.51 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 939.28 lakh tonne sugarcane with a recovery of 10.43 per cent.
Till date, 61 sugar mills in the state have stopped operations including 33 from the Solapur division. Sugar mills from the Solapur division have produced 174.11 lakh tonne sugar by crushing 162.89 lakh quintal sugar. Eleven sugar mills from Kolhapur, 8 from Nanded, 3 from Pune and 2 each from Amaravati and Aurangabad has stopped crushing.
