Ponda: The sugarcane transportation from Goa to Karnataka has been hit as the main road connecting Anmod, Goa and Ramnagar, Karnataka has been closed for repair work. Sugarcane grown by farmers in Goa is mainly transported to Karnataka for crushing through this route. The alternate route from Anmod to Khanapur also remains closed from 6 pm to 6 am and the trucks loaded with sugarcane are parked at Anmod for the whole night if the trucks reach there after 6 pm.
The road repair work from Khanapur to Anmod is underway by the Karnataka government.
Francis “Aytin’ Mascarenhas who has taken responsibility for sending sugarcane to factories in nearby states for crushing said, “This halt delays transportation by a day. If the trucks reach the factory on time, they can be unloaded quickly and do an extra trip.”
He has managed to send 19,932 tonnes of cane to a factory in Khanapur in Karnataka and 14,000 and 800 tonnes to Chandgad in Maharashtra.
