Pune: Sugarcane crushing season is in the final phase in Maharashtra as the majority of sugar mills have closed the operations.
The sugar mills in the Nanded region have completed the cane crushing operations followed by mills from Kolhapur and Solapur division.
For the ongoing crushing season, a total of 26 sugar mills from Nanded took part in the season and produced 93.97 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 94.28 lakh tonne sugarcane with a recovery rate of 9.97 per cent.
According to the state sugar commissionerate, a total of 190 sugar mills took part in the cane crushing operations in Maharashtra and May 4 they have produced 1059.24 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 1009.4 lakh tonne sugarcane with a recovery rate of 10.49 per cent.
43 sugar mills from Solapur, 37 from Kolhapur, 28 from Pune, 19 from Ahmednagar, 17 from Aurangabad, 3 from Nagpur and 2 from Amaravati have closed their operations.
