Pune: Sugarcane crushing season in Maharashtra is in the final phase as most of the sugar mills have closed their operations. Out of 190 sugar mills that had participated in the ongoing season, 181 have ended their season and only 9 are operating,
According to the state sugar commissionerate, around 190 sugar mills have produced 1059.72 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 1009.84 lakh tonne sugarcane till May 6. The mills have reported an average recovery rate of 10.49 per cent.
Total 43 sugar mills from Solapur division, 37 from Kolhapur, 26 from Nanded, 29 from Nanded, 23 from Ahmednagar, 18 from Aurangabad, 3 from Nagpur and 2 sugar mills from Amaravati have closed their operations.
