Maharashtra mills hit 71% higher sugar production with 93% FRP paid off

The 2020-21 sugar season in Maharashtra is in its final innings and is likely to end by May 20. So far mills in the state have produced 106.05 LMT of sugar with a recovery of 10.49% which is 71.92% higher than the production in the previous year that stood at 61.69 LMT. Out of 190 mills, 181 mills have ended their crushing for the season 2020-21; four mills will be ending crushing this week while remaining by May 20, 2021.

In conversation with ChiniMandi News, Maharashtra Sugar Commissioner Mr. Shekhar Gaikwad shared that across the state millers have settled 93% of the FRP payments viz ₹22293 crore, a few mills have lagged behind to clear the dues. However, they shall be cleared soon.

Commenting on the oxygen manufacturing mills in the state Gaikwad said, sugar mills have indicated interest and are spearheading to manufacture oxygen. 7 mills in the state have provided around 100 oxygen concentrators so far and 16 mills have ordered oxygen plants.

Dharashiv Sakhar Karkhana is set to run the state’s first pilot project to manufacture oxygen. Soon mills from Maharashtra would also be extending their efforts in support of combating the Covid-19 cases similar to its sanitizer manufacturing initiative last year.
