Kushinagar: Sugarcane department has warned the sugar mills that stern action will be initiated against them if they fail to clear the cane dues of farmers.
The department has issued notices to five sugar mills giving them a deadline of May 31 to clear cane dues. The department has also prohibited three sugar mills from selling sugar and molasses without department permission.
These mills have been asked to take permission before selling sugar and deposit the 85% of the money earned from selling sugar to the bank accounts of the cane farmers.
The mills have closed the crushing operations but have not yet cleared the cane dues.
According to the news report published in Jagran.com, District cane officer Ved Prakash Singh said that the department has taken up the issue of pending cane dues and we have issued notices to five sugar mills asking them to clear the cane dues by May 31. We will take stern action against the mills that fail to clear cane within the stipulated period.
