The agriculture department of the Bihar government has begun the assessment of the sugarcane and other crops loss due to the cyclone Yaas. The cyclone that hit the coast of Odisha on May 26 caused severe damage to the sugarcane and other crops grown in Bihar. Heavy rainfall continued in the state for two days on May 27 and 28 along with strong winds that caused the death of seven persons.
According to the news report published in Hindustantimes.com, an official familiar with the issue said that earlier, farmers were not offered any relief from the government against the loss of sugarcane due to natural disturbances.
Amarendra Pratap Singh, State agriculture minister said, “The survey of the damaged sugarcane and other crops have begun and detailed report will be submitted to the disaster management department for compensation by the end of this month.”
