Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh: Farmers protest is on the rise in Uttar Pradesh over pending sugarcane dues issue. Many farmers organisations in the state had announced that they would hold the protest to press for their demands. Now, Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) announced it would begin district-level meetings in the state from August to highlight the problems of sugarcane farmers.

According to the news agency PTI, one of the focuses of the campaign would be to demand pending cane dues amongst others. To discuss the strategy for the campaign, a major meeting of the zonal-level committees is scheduled on July 11.

Addressing the press conference, BKU’s national spokesperson Rakesh Tikait said, “The campaign would begin from August 1 in each district. During awareness, the emphasis would be on sugarcane arrears and other important farmers issues.”

He claims sugarcane farmers are suffering in the state.

Cane growers under the banner of Rashtriya Kisan Mazdoor Sangthan (RKMS) will also stage a protest for demanding paying interest on sugarcane dues pending with mills. Sangthan with farmers will march to Lucknow on July 15 to press for their demands. The organisation also convened a Mahapanchayat of farmers in the sugarcane region to encourage them to take part in the march.
