Bengaluru, Karnataka: Sugarcane farmers under the banner of the Federation of Rajya Raitha Sanghas and Sugarcane Growers’ Association will launch a statewide agitation on August 10 demanding a hike in fair and remunerative price for sugarcane and opposing fixing of meters to agriculture pump sets.
According to the news report published in Thehindu.com, Kurubur Shanthakumar, president of Sugar Growers’ Association told reporters that the government has marginally increased FRP over the last three years, whereas the cane production costs increased significantly. We demand the government to immediately hike FRP for sugarcane.”
He also said that by amending the Electricity Act, the government wants to privatise power supply and fix meters to agriculture pump sets.
