Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh: Sugar mills in Uttar Pradesh have cleared the cane payment worth Rs 26,061.57 crore for the 2020-21 crushing season.
The amount paid is around 78.92 per cent of the total cane dues. The farmers have received the cane dues despite the low sale of sugar due to lower consumption led by the pandemic.
According to the news report published in The Times of India, Sanjay Bhoosreddy, additional chief secretary (cane development), said, “Several steps taken by the department have helped in clearing cane dues of the farmers. It includes tagging cane products other than sugar — molasses, bagasse and press mud.”
As per the sugarcane department, sugar mills made the 100 per cent cane payment for the sugarcane season 2019-20.
