Pune: The Loni Terminal of Pune Division became the first terminal to load the ethanol rake to transport the fuel to Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh.
The rail officials stated that the ethanol rake was sent in a Bogie Tank Petrol Naphtha (BTPN) rake on Tuesday.
Ethanol is produced mainly in the sugar belt area where sugar mills are concentrated. For the first time the railways have been used for transporting ethanol and it is a progressive step towards development, said the officials.
The Central Railway Pune division and M/S Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd, Loni, jointly worked to transport the first 15 wagons to Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh.
