Meerut, Uttar Pradesh: Farmers in the district will use drones for spraying pesticides on crops that ease their work.
According to the news report published in The Times of India, the agricultural scientists associated with the Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel Agriculture University (SVBPAU) hold a demonstration of spraying pesticides using the drone in various villages in the district. They recently hold such demonstration at Ditauli village during which the drone lifted a 10-litre tank of pesticide and spread it on the crops. It took minutes for the drone to complete the work whereas manually it would have taken several days.
The scientists said that apart from saving time this would lower the health risks farmers face while spraying the pesticide due to the toxicity of chemicals. This will also overcome the shortage of labour.
R S Sengar, agriculture scientist associated with the department of biotechnology, College of Agriculture, SVBPAU, said, “This method will be beneficial particularly for paddy and sugarcane, where negotiating the way through every nook and corner of vegetation is not possible and several portions of the crop are left out from the spray. The cost of the drone is Rs 6 lakh and it can spray pesticides on crops grown in one acre in 15 minutes.”
