Chandigarh, Punjab: District administration in Punjab will initiate the assessment of the damage to the sugarcane crops by the red rot fungus disease.
Cooperation Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa has asked the officials from Gurdaspur and Jalandhar to assess the damage done to the crops and appealed to farmers not to panic due to the disease. He has also asked the authorities to identify the hot spots to tackle and control the disease.
According to an official statement, the minister directed the deputy commissioners to work in tandem with the Punjab Agricultural University, cane commissioner and others, to find ways and means to combat the disease to save the crop.
