Bangladesh plans to suspend duties on sugar imports

The Bangladesh government is planning to suspend all import duties on onion, sugar and edible oil to control the rising prices.

According to the news report published in bdnews24.com, the commerce ministry has asked the National Board of Revenue to suspend all import duties on onion, sugar and edible oil.

After a meeting to review the stock, supply, import and price situation of essential commodities, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said, “We are taking all the possible steps to keep a check on the rising prices.”

Commerce Secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh said, “The commerce ministry wants the NBR to suspend supplementary duty and advance duty on sugar imports for an indefinite period.”
