Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh said that the sugar mills in the state including private and cooperative mills will start cane crushing operations from November 15 for the 2021-22 season.
He met the sugarcane farmers’ organisations from the Majha and Doaba region and assured them to address their issues related to the sugarcane crop.
According to the news report published in Tribuneindia.com, the farmers had shared their grievances with the chief minister stating that sugarcane cultivation is the main crop in the region and they are solely dependent on the crop for their living. They stated that the private mills in the state had not yet followed the calendar system and were non-committal on giving the date for starting the mills on time.
