As the sugarcane crushing activities in Maharashtra have picked up, the number of sugar mills participating in the cane crushing operations are also increasing. According to the Sugar commissionerate, total 182 sugar mills, including 91 cooperative mills and 91 private mills, have started the operations and produced 243.93 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 263.24 lakh tonne sugarcane till December 06, 2021 with a recovery rate of 9.27 per cent.
Solapur division is leading in the state with maximum (41) sugar mills operating this season and they have produced 53.14 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 62.76 lakh tonne sugarcane with a recovery rate of 8.47 per cent.
Sugar mills in Kolhapur district have recorded more than 10 per cent recovery rate during this season. The mills here have produced 72.19 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 68.41 lakh tonne sugarcane with a recovery rate of 10.55 per cent.
