MLCs representing the sugarcane growing areas of the North Karnataka region have demanded the government to formulate a separate ethanol production policy that would benefit cane growers.
They have also demanded the government to include the sugarcane crop under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY). The issue surfaced during the discussion of issues related to the sugarcane crop in the Legislative Council. MLC Mahantesh Kavatagimath raised a question in the house over the delay in cane payment.
As per news report published in deccanherald.com, MLC Laxman Savadi said that Madhya Pradesh and other states have separate ethanol policy and Karnataka should also have one even as grain-based ethanol manufacturing is also gaining importance.
