Sugarcane Commissioner issues instructions to make proper arrangements for farmers to protect them from cold wave and covid-19

Commissioner Cane and Sugar Shri Sanjay R. Bhoosreddy have issued Instructions to make proper arrangements of bonfire, lukewarm drinking water, resting and other basic facilities to protect the farmers from cold wave and covid-19 infection, coming to sugar mill for weighment of cane.

Giving detailed information in this regard, the Cane Commissioner told that due to the provision of bonfire at the sugar mill gates and yards, the farmers will not have to chill in the fierce cold and will get relief from this cold at the sugar mill gate at night. Apart from this the arrangement of water, soap and sanitizers at appropriate places for washing hands will also stop the spread of covid-19 infection.

In addition to the above, it was also told that at present, dense fog is also covering most areas of the state, due to which there is a possibility of accidents due to reduced visibility. In view of this, it has been made mandatory to install reflector strips on all the vehicles used for transporting sugarcane at the mill gates and purchasing centers of sugar mills. In view of the above, instructions have been issued to all Deputy Cane Commissioners & District Cane Officers for launching a campaign at mill gate & Cane Purchasing Centers to setup reflector on Sugarcane transport vehicles. This work should be carried out, two to three times during current crushing season, so that, reflectors could be fixed on all Cane transporting vehicles and Sugarcane farmers can safely transport their Cane at mill gate and Cane purchasing centers. All sugar mills will compulsorily ensure this work in their respective areas.

The Regional officers have also been instructed to meet the farmers in the sugar mill yard and inform them about departmental works and get feedback from them, so that if the cane farmers are facing any practical problem then it can be resolved promptly. Regional officers will also ensure its monitoring from time to time during crushing season.
