Sugar production in Karnataka increases compared to last season

Sugarcane crushing season in India is at its peak with all the major sugar mills continuing cane crushing operations. The sugar produced during the ongoing crushing season has increased compared to the last season.
The data released by the Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA) suggests that the sugar output in Karnataka is higher this season compared to the last one.

According to ISMA, till January 15, 2022, a total of 70 sugar mills were operating in Karnataka and they have produced 33.20 lakh tonne sugar as compared to 29.80 lakh tonne sugar produced by 66 sugar mills during the same period last season.

Total 504 sugar mills were operating in the country till January 15, 2022, which produced 151.41 lakh tonne sugar while 487 sugar mills were operating during the same period last season and the sugar produced during that time was 142.78 lakh tonne.
